Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy caramelized sugars and a smooth cup.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

ABOUT THE ROASTER

Klatch

Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Partnered with Trade since 2018
Coffee is in the Perry family's blood. Since 1993, Klatch has brought award-winning coffee to SoCal. Roastmaster and green buyer Mike Perry brings more than passion—his chemical engineering background means real science drives every roast, making Klatch a cut above the rest.
Fun Fact
This roaster was originally named Coffee Klatch for its co-founder Cindy’s memories of her Dutch grandmother and friends’ weekly gathering — or klatch — for coffee and conversation.

    Really hits the spot.

I’m picky about which coffees I like. This one might be my number 1. I make espresso and aeropress and an occasional K-cup using these beans. Great coffee!

    One of the best

I’ve tried quite a few coffees off Trade. I’d be happy to drink only old World Venezia going forward.

Ooohhhh yeah. . . . hits the spot.

This is delicious! So smooth and rich with zero astringency or sourness. Full-bodied, a little fudgie and very satisfying. It's good black and with milk. I'd buy this one again. A++
