Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    Chocolate covered cherries!

This is one of my favorites so far, like the title of my review says I get chocolate covered cherries first then brown sugar or burnt sugar when I make it as French press. When I make it as espresso it is very rich but not too bad prefer it French press style but delicious!

    Excellent daily driver for espresso

It's a medium roast (like Trade says, not a medium-dark like the bag says), easy to pull a shot, slight citrus and berry notes, smooth, consistent. This is exactly the sort of bean I look for 75% of my drinks and then have something funkier/lighter/rarer for the rest.

I was pulling shots in the low 20s, 1:2 ratio. It could probably handle a slightly higher extraction too but I was trying to maximize the fruit notes.

I didn't try it as drip but I bet it would be great

    Perfectly roasted blend

Makes a terrific pour over cup, smooth and balanced with a hint of smokeyness. Second and third cups are a must!

    Classic Comfort Coffee

Rich, chocolate, and just a little sweet. I drink mine with a splash of whole milk. Old school goodness.
