Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy caramelized sugars and a smooth cup.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    A surprise journey

When you first take a smell of this coffee it's first scent is just that, coffee, but a pungent secondary scent hits your nostrils just like the coffee is aptly named almost like diesal. It's unique and interesting, and we were excited to dial it in. This coffee was a little more of a challenge to dial in than other coffees, and the taste of the straight espresso was extremely strong, ripe with bitter overtones that was a challenge to manage as we dialed in. We ended up bringing some acidity back into it by turning the temp all the way down to 80c and loosening the grind close to a turbo shot (15.5 in, 30 out in ~18 seconds) but it left us worried since this coffee was so strong even with the lower variables it demanded, unlike other espresso. But then it proved us wrong and blew us away when we made our first cappuccino. It had an enhancing sweetness and flavor unlike any other coffee we had tried. The strong coffee taste was present but it would've won an Emmy for best supporting actor if it could, it enhanced the flavor of our milk and syrups so well this might end up being our go to for all our milk and syrup based drinks. It brought a sweetness that felt natural, like it belonged more than anything else belonged in a cup of coffee. I highly recommend this coffee if you're making your own lattes, cappuccinos or cortados, but you might have a worse experience with black drip or pour over since this coffee is unforgiving by itself. Not for the faint of heart, definitely for…

    Diesel Coffee

The coffee Diesel is very good. Bold yet not too dark that it's bitter.
