Dark roast

Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

ABOUT THE ROASTER

Cerberus

Jacksonville, OR
Partnered with Trade since 2023
Driven by a desire to create an inclusive gathering place for rural Oregonians, founders Cody and Kristina opened Cerberus café in Jacksonville, Oregon in 2019. Within the first year, the team began small-batch roasting to extend their warm community reach even further.
Fun Fact
Cerberus got its name because the shop’s 130lb lab/mastiff mix, Bear, looks like the three-headed dog from Greek mythology.

    Just right

Good coffee shouldn’t need creamer, and this one proves it. It’s smooth, easy to drink, and roasted to a perfectly rich dark profile without any bitterness.

    Bittersweet in a Good Way

This is a solid dark roast that is enhanced by a little milk and sugar. There is a sweetness to it but also a little, tiny bitterness that reminds you you're drinking a dark roast. Personally, I can appreciate that.
